Rochford Disability Essex

DCH built this iconic Passivhaus amenity to serve the community of Rochford.

DCH built this Centre for Disability Studies to Passivhaus standards, achieving a final air test of 0.33m³/m².hr @ 50 Pascals. It consists of single skin blockwork, external insulation and a rendered finish, all of which contribute to its sustainability.

At the time of construction this was one of only three non-residential buildings to receive Passivhaus certification and we look forward to using this method of working more often as it represents the future of sustainable building in the UK.

Some aspects of construction we used to reach Passivhaus standards are:

  • Mechanical ventilation heat recovery units.
  • Careful design and rigorous workmanship.
  • Intricate air-tight detailing around windows and doors.
  • Insulated hot and cold water pipework on a circulating system.
