Cherry Hinton Hub Awarded Best Refurbishment Under £3m

We’re proud to reflect on the success of the Cherry Hinton Community Hub, which was awarded Best Refurbishment Under £3m at the 2025 Greater Cambridge Design and Construction Awards (the hub also received top honours for Community Contribution & Social Value at the COCCEC Awards).

Delivered in partnership with Ingleton Wood LLP and commissioned by Cambridge City Council, this project was shaped by the vision of the Cherry Hinton Community Benefit Society and the voices of local residents. The result is a vibrant, inclusive space that continues to serve the community every day.

The refurbished hub includes:

  • Flexible meeting rooms
  • Cherry Hinton’s first café - The Cherry Branch
  • Sustainable features such as air source heat pumps and a sedum roof
  • Spaces designed to tackle social isolation and support local groups, workshops and events

The judging panel, chaired by Dame Fiona Reynolds, praised the project for its “bold reuse of an existing building”, its “strong environmental performance”, and the “exceptional craftsmanship” involved. They also highlighted the importance of accessibility and inclusivity, noting that the hub “creates a welcoming and adaptable space that reflects the needs of its community.”

This recognition is a testament to what can be achieved when construction is driven by collaboration, sustainability and social value. We’re incredibly proud to have played a part in bringing this vision to life.

Thank you to everyone who made this project possible.
