DCH Project Wins Top Honour for Community Impact

DCH is excited to announce that the Cherry Hinton Community Hub has won the award for Community Contribution & Social Value at the Construction Excellence: Cambridge & Oxford Corridor (COCCEC) Awards 2025.

Delivered in collaboration with architects Ingleton Wood, this Cambridge City Council initiative saw the transformation of the Cherry Hinton Library into a vibrant space for community activities, meetings and drop-ins. Construction was completed in 2024.

Presented by COCCEC – a regional branch of the National Construction Excellence organisation – the award recognises projects making a meaningful impact on society and communities, and demonstrating excellence across environmental, social and economic dimensions.

To be considered, projects must show how they:

  • Reduce greenhouse gas and carbon dioxide emissions during construction and operation
  • Innovate to reduce waste and carbon emissions
  • Support local employment initiatives including training and apprenticeships
  • Improve the image of the industry by providing social value in the neighbouring area
  • Show that assets match or exceed the design modelling and ratings

The Cherry Hinton Community Hub was originally proposed by the Cherry Hinton Community Benefit Society, a local charity dedicated to improving conditions for residents. The society will manage the hub, which includes Cherry Hinton’s first café – The Cherry Branch – and flexible meeting rooms.

These spaces aim to tackle social isolation and offer venues for local organisations, workshops, concerts, craft groups and more.
